Tequila

If you are looking for popular tequila brands, you may want to try a tequila store in Brookline. The national drink of Mexico, tequila, has represented the pride and heritage of the Mexican people for years. Tequila is a clear liquid, made from fermenting and distilling the sweet sap of blue agave plants. To qualify as tequila, according to Mexican law, it must be made from blue agave grown in Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacan, Nayarit, or Tamaulipas. It must also be at least 51% agave, but the best are 100% agave tequila.

The five official types of tequila are blanco or silver, joven or gold, reposado tequila, anejo tequila and extra anejo tequila. These five types can then be categorized as mixto tequila or 100% agave tequila. All mixto tequila is at least 51% agave mixed with other sugars, using both glucose and fructose sugars. Blanco tequila, a white spirit, is the youngest type of tequila. It can be aged for a maximum of two months or immediately bottled after distillation. If you are looking for specific types of tequila brands, try a tequila shop near 02445.

Gold or joven tequila, like blanco, is unaged, but is flavored with caramel coloring, oak extract, glycerin, or sugar-based syrup. It is usually a mixto, meaning it could be made by blending silver tequila with anejo tequila or extra anejo tequila. Reposado tequila must be aged for at least two months, but less than a year in oak barrels. Top tequila brands typically age the tequila for three to nine months. The most popular type of tequila, Reposado tequila can be either 100% agave or mixto tequila. Any tequila store in Brookline will be able to assist you in selecting the best tequila for your immediate needs.

Anejo tequila is typically aged for a minimum of 12 months in wooden barrels. The better quality anejos are aged between 12 and 18 months when making mixtos. For 100% agave, anejos are aged for a maximum of four years. Extra anejo is the newest category, established in 2006; it is aged for a minimum of three years. Tequila is said to lose the earthy and agave flavor if aged for longer than four years. In American culture tequila has become a popular shot drink. However, in Mexico it was often sipped neat, accompanying a sangrita, a tomato-citrus drink. For any additional information on tequila I suggest visiting a tequila shop near 02445.
